Awoyelu E.H. is a research scientist and doctoral student. Her research is focused on molecular epidemiology, genetic evolution, transmission dynamics of emerging infectious diseases, particularly viruses and vaccine/drug design. This work is directed towards uncovering how evolution and transmission shape viral genetic diversity. She has also worked on several projects including prevalence studies of human viruses, antibiotic resistance, and drug/vaccine design. Her current project is on the phylodynamics of SARS-CoV-2 in Nigeria with a view to explain the transmission dynamics of the novel virus in Nigeria. Her love for teaching and impacting lives has moved her to facilitate several hands-on pieces of training on the use of Bioinformatics tools to analyze biological data. Asides research, she enjoys participating in Girl-Child education, sensitization, and training to the fight against HIV/AIDS in rural communities in Nigeria. Elukunbi had her Master’s degree at the Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso in Microbiology, and a BSc. in Microbiology from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
