A 5-Saturday Training on Basic Bioinformatics and Genomics (November 9 –December 7, 2019)
The 5-Saturday Basic Bioinformatics training was a success with about forty (40) participants in attendance. The participants comprised of undergraduates, postgraduates, and academics from different life science disciplines like Microbiology, Biochemistry, Physiology, and Medical Laboratory Sciences. The training was an eye-opener for most of the participants in the world of Genomics as they were equipped with the necessary bioinformatics skills required to be productive in research.
Free Seminar on Clinical Bioinformatics (Jan 25, 2020)
The seminar was attended by Medical Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Medical biochemists, Medical microbiologists, immunologists, and Medical physiologists from different parts of the country. They were sensitized on the various applications of Bioinformatics in a clinical setting. About one-hundred and eighty (180) people from different teaching hospitals and Colleges of Medicine were present, and certificates of participation were awarded.
Free Google Digital Skills Training (Feb 8, 2020)
The world has become technologically transformed, and digital skills are a pertinent aspect of the technology, hence the call for training. The training was organized to enlighten the masses on how to harness the internet and use online-based digital technologies such as desktop computers, mobile phones, and other digital media and platforms to improve their learning and promote products and services of business owners. About one hundred and seventy (170) participants who attended from different geographic locations were enlightened on how to build and grow their businesses online using their social media platform positively.
3 Days Bioinformatics training at Ilorin between (February 13-15, 2020)
It was an introductory training to Bioinformatics and Genomics. The total participants of the training were twenty-seven (27) with a background in Medicine, Medical Laboratory Science, Zoology, Microbiology, and Physiology from the different states of the country such as Plateau, Osun, Kwara, Kaduna, and Oyo among others. The participants’ horizon was broadened, and they were all looking forward to an intermediate training course.
Academic Clinic (March 21, 2020)
The insightful training furnished the participants with an increased knowledge of how to write an attractive Resume, get international/national paid internships, obtain and process undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships, and avoid unnecessary errors while submitting various applications. About fifteen (15) participants, mostly undergraduates and graduates were in attendance. The Chief facilitator was Dr. Olusola Olayeye who operates opportunity4reseachers “https://opportunity4researchers.com”, an online website that is regularly updated with scholarship and grant opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in all fields.
Online Research Methods (May 1-8, 2020)
Various research methods, proposal and thesis writing, plagiarism, writing of research manuscripts, and ways to design individual projects were elucidated to participants. It was indeed an impacting training, with a total of seven hundred (700) participants from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, the United Kingdom, and Caribbean Island. The participants cut across various disciplines and levels, such as undergraduate, postgraduate, postdoctoral, and academics.
Online Seminar on Mushroom Cultivation Technology (MTC) (May 16-19, 2020)
The participants were enlightened on different technology useful in mushroom cultivation. An insight into the means of cultivating mushrooms was given. A total of twenty (20) participants were in attendance, and the training was led by Dr. Majolagbe O.N. from the Department of Pure and Applied Biology, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria.
Online Training on Bioinformatics (May 30- June 2, 2020)
The online bioinformatics training availed the participants an excellent opportunity to equip themselves with the basic knowledge of the analysis of biological data. The online training was designed for beginners to know what bioinformatics entails as it gives insight on various biological databases, homology search, sequence and multiple alignments, and introduction to phylogenetics. Training materials were provided to the participants with practical assessments. A total of thirty-five (35) persons who registered and participated were awarded certificates of participation at the end of the training.
